Help Victims of the Earthquake in Haiti

Federation Collecting Relief Funds in Response to Haiti Earthquake
As part of the Jewish community’s response to the massive earthquake on January 12 in Haiti, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has established an emergency relief fund to provide immediate humanitarian aid to earthquake victims and their families. One hundred percent of all contributions to this fund will be allocated directly to the relief effort.

Make an online financial contribution now.

Donation checks with notations of “For Haiti Earthquake Relief” should be mailed to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, 4200 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33137. For more information, call 305.576.4000.

Federation leadership and the Consulate General of Israel for Florida and Puerto Rico are in close contact with leaders from Miami’s Haitian community, who have expressed their deep appreciation for these efforts. Federation also has expressed its condolences, concern and support to members of the Haitian community in Miami.

“We are heartbroken over this devastating earthquake, and our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti during this difficult time,” said Jacob Solomon, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. “We are focusing our efforts as a Jewish community to bring some means of relief and assistance to victims and their families. We will continue to work with local Haitian community leaders to monitor the situation and determine how best to be of maximum assistance.”

As financial support efforts are under way, the State of Israel already has dispatched to Haiti a 12-person search-and-rescue team to help in the life-saving efforts. Israeli government officials also are assessing the need for additional personnel and assistance for the people of Haiti in their time of need.

JAFCO Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options, Inc. (JAFCO) is a nonprofit agency established in April 1992. Nothing is more tragic than a family torn apart. When a child is removed from his family, he leaves behind what he has known and takes with him his fears, anger, hurt and insecurities. We believe that we can provide one less obstacle in the healing process by providing a child with a familiar cultural and religious environment. We believe every child deserves a safe and loving home.

Save a Child's Heart In the United States, birth defects such as cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and spina bifida receive a great deal of attention. The most common birth defect, congenital heart disease, does not because the surgery to cure this defect is a relatively routine procedure. However, in developing countries congenital heart disease is often a death sentence for children. Conditions like a hole in the heart, Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) cannot be treated, nor can the damage caused to the heart by rheumatic fever.  Save a Child's Heart rescues these children with life threatening heart disease. Like Doctors without Borders, our medical team in Israel volunteers their time and services. Our Children's Home in Israel houses the children both before and after surgery.
