Cantor Marcos Askenazi
Cantor Marcos Askenazi comes to the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center after five years of service as Cantor of the East 55th street conservative synagogue in NY. Cantor Marcos as he is affectionately known was born in Brooklyn and raised in queens. At the young age of two, while attending a cousins wedding, Marcos walked up to the bandstand and began to play the drums. Although the audience was amazed, for Marcos’ parents, Linda and Isaac, this was no surprise. Marcos had started singing before he could talk, humming and babbling along to Pavarotti and frank Sinatra records. Later in life Marcos joined the Miami boys choir, performing locally in New York and across the word including Israel, France, Belgium and Italy. Marcos’ desire to connect with people was enhanced by stage performance but what he loved most was to pray for and with people of congregations around the world. And so, Marcos began leading High Holiday services at the age of 16. It was during his teen years that Marcos developed his ability to work with children, to create meaningful programs for adults and to engage and empower people of the Jewish community. more...
