Holocaust
The Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center is
proud to be the home of the largest group of Holocaust Survivors in any
synagogue in North America. The Synagogue offers a unique and personal
perspective of the more recent history of the Jewish people and their strength,
courage and will to survive and flourish.
Since its dedication in the early 1990’s,
the Museum has welcomed hundreds of visitors, including school children, as well
as religious and political leaders. The ATJC Holocaust Memorial Museum, built
under the direction of Holocaust Chairman, Victor Cynamon, stimulates visitors
to confront hatred, prevent genocide, promote human dignity, and strengthen
democracy. The Museum provides a powerful lesson in the fragility of freedom,
the myth of progress, the need for vigilance in preserving democratic values.
With unique power and authenticity, the Museum teaches those who visit about the
dangers of unimpeded hatred. Even today we face an alarming rise in Holocaust
denial and anti-Semitism.
The ATJC Museum sponsors tours, special exhibitions, educational outreach, and Holocaust commemorations, including the synagogue‘s annual Yom Hashoah observance community service.
