ATJC SISTERHOOD

WHAT IS SISTERHOOD?

Sisterhood is the organization of the women of the congregation who come together for friendship, social activities, study, programs to benefit the community, and above all, for the growth of the individual so that each may find an opportunity to fulfill her potential as a person and as a Jewish woman. Sisterhood provides the arena for each woman to expand and grow, in a Jewish atmosphere. It is a channel for the energies of each member. In short, you will be able to open new doors for yourself, leading to new avenues of opportunity, achievement and enrichment.

WHY SISTERHOOD?
Sisterhood is the collective presence, voice and strength of Jewish women within the structure of the congregation. It provides the setting in which women meet and work together for the congregation, developing projects in which they are interested and wish to be involved. Sisterhood cooperates with other community organizations, Jewish and non-Jewish, to do tikkun olam.

WHO IS THE SISTERHOOD WOMAN?
The Sisterhood woman is many people. She is mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother in her family circle. She is resourceful. She is dedicated to Jewish values and ideals and wants to translate them into practical actions.

WHAT DOES SISTERHOOD DO?
Sisterhood includes activities and programs that members feel would be valuable to them, to their families, to fellow congregants, and to our community. Members' skills, talents, and drive have enabled them to participate in many areas including religious schools, youth groups, the creation of prayer and music, as well as a myriad of community projects.

WHY DO WE NEED SISTERHOOD?
Sisterhood provides a collective identify for women of our congregation. How do you identify yourself? Are you equipped to answer the question "Who am I?" Sisterhood can help you to find the answer to this and other questions. Sisterhood gives you the opportunity to put your talents, time, and gifts to work for many causes. It can enable you to enrich the life of our congregation as well as that of your own family.

CAN YOU FIT SISTERHOOD INTO YOUR WORLD?
We live in a complex, complicated world. Most women are working, if not full time, then part time. Family structure is changing. Sisterhood is a way of belonging, of being part of a group, of involving oneself in the greater concerns of our lives. It affords the individual woman a chance to make a significant contribution, and to feel the pride that comes with knowing that she is doing something to tackle the problems of the society in which we live.
