Synagogue Leadership

Mr. William W. Landa, Chairman of the Board
Mr. William W. Landa Bill was born in Czechoslovakia, and came to the United States in 1951. After having spent two years in the US Army, Bill settled in Spring Valley, New York and immediately got involved in the construction business. He has resided in Florida for thirty years, and in the City of Aventura for over twenty years with his lovely wife, Carole. Carole and Bill have four children and nine grandchildren: Amy, Michael, Adam & Jason Landa; Tammy, David, Isaac, Eli & Sammy Fisher; Robert, Matthew & Rachel Lansburgh; Joanna, David, Zachary & Olivia Lansburgh.
 
Mr. Laurence A. Herrup, Synagogue President
Larry was born in Hartford Ct. He moved to Miami in 1973 to attend the University of Miami where he met Becky, his wife of more than 30 years. He is a practicing Certified Public Accountant for the last 30 years and is President of Laurence A. Herrup CPA PA. In addition to his synagogue presidency he currently is the Chairman of the City of Miami Beach Board of Adjustment, past Chairman of the City of Miami Beach Budget Advisory Committee and was a member of the City of Miami Beach Charter Review Commission. He and wife, Becky share their commitment to Jewish life and have instilled the same sense of commitment to their children Bradley 25 and Lindsey 22.
 
Dr. Amir Baron, Executive Vice President

Dr. Amir Baron assumed the position of Executive Vice President of the ATJC in August 1990. Previously he served as Director of Education of Temple Emanu-El of Greater Miami and the Lehrman Day School on Miami Beach, and Director of Education of the Zionist Organization of America, Long Island Region, NewYork. Baron earned a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh his BA in Educational Administration from Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan, Israel. Baron was involved with the original design and construction of the state-of-the-art facilities that comprise the ATJC. He oversaw the creation of the beautiful stained glass windows and commissioned the renowned Israeli sculptor, Frank Meisler, to create the original art work that adorns the synagogue lobby and sanctuary.He initiated the hugely successful Cultural Lecture Series in 1992, bringing recognition and acclaim to the synagogue by attracting world famous guest speakers such as Israeli Prime Ministers Yitzhak Shamir, Shimon Peres, Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Olmert, former President and First Lady Bill and Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senators and Congressmen, and respected leaders in all fields that included distinguished rabbis, journalists and professors, such as New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, Harvard professor and lawyer Alan Dershowitz.

Baron was the recipient of the Eminent Jewish Educator and Guardian of Israel Award from the Moadin Ivri/Hebrew Institute of Greater Miami in1994 for his considerable accomplishments in the field of Jewish education and for strengthening the ties between the State of Israel and the South Florida Jewish community. In 1990, Baron received both the Distinguished Jewish Educator Award presented by the World Zionist Organization and Jewish Agency for Israel and also the Distinguished Educator Award presented by the City of Miami Beach.
