About Us

For two thousand years, the Jewish people have wandered and settled throughout the world. Whenever they arrived in a new place, they would secure two missions above all others. First, they would rest and remember those who have passed. Second, they would build a synagogue, a place that would serve as the center of Jewish life for the kehillah kedoshah, the sacred community. In every generation, Jews heeded the commandment first given in the wilderness by God to Moses, v’asu li mikdash v’shachanti b’tocham, “And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8). When the City of Aventura emerged out of the swamps of Miami-Dade County, the local leaders of the Jewish community followed in the footsteps of their ancestors.  First, they transformed a meager storefront space into a vibrant congregation. Then, years later, they dreamed of building a magnificent, free standing facility. It would not only bear the name, “Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center Beth Jacob,” but it would serve as the beacon of Jewish life for the Aventura community and beyond. Where there was once an empty tract of land, our leadership envisioned an awe-inspiring sanctuary filled Jews in prayer.  Where there was once a barren courtyard, our leadership imagined a breathtaking social hall crowded with Jews dancing in celebration. Where there was once a parking lot, our leadership pictured modern classrooms teeming with Jewish children and Jewish learning. For three decades, our congregation has reaped the benefits of this dream becoming reality.  We are grateful to so many individuals and families whose commitment, dedication, and support have made this milestone possible. Without their efforts, we would not be here today. The foundations of our exceptional Synagogue are strong and true. Chazak chazak v’nit-chazek. May we continue to build upon them for generations to come.
